For the German athlete Alica Schmidt, the 2025 season did not go according to plan. The 26-year-old pulls the ripcord early.

Alica Schmidt will no longer run a race in this athletics season, as she explained in a contribution on Instagram.

“I actually decided to end my season early than planned, simply owed to the fact that I couldn’t really get up.

The 800-meter runner would have liked to start until the end of August, but this was “definitely the more sensible decision”. Schmidt had recently caught a corona infection. She wanted to stay in medical treatment to make sure that she is not kidnapped.

“I still notice it a little and I still haven’t found my 100 % health back, which is just super annoying,” said Schmidt. The last few days are “mentally a bit difficult” for the athlete, now she is looking forward to the vacation.

Semi-finals at German championships

Alica Schmidt switched from the 400 to 800 meters after the Paris Olympic Games. Among other things, she trains together with the German 800-meter specialist Majie Kolberg under the direction of coach Jan Petrak.

Success has not been able to set itself up for Schmidt since then. She made her best time so far in mid-July at the athletics meeting in Lucerne when she mastered the 800 meter in 2:03 minutes. At the subsequent German championships in Dresden, she left the semi -finals a good two weeks ago (2:06 minutes). So it was also far from a qualification for the World Cup in Tokyo (13th to 21st September).

She had completed her last race in Oordegem in Belgium around a week ago.
