MusicNormally ‘Vivre’ would be Arno Hintjens’ last album, but the 72-year-old singer, who has been struggling with his health for a while, is still working on a new record. The Ostend artist, who canceled his last concert for the time being in mid-March, gets the help of his son and his brother.
“I’m in the studio. A few more things and I’m done. All I want is to finish my last album,” it sounded on French radio yesterday. In an interview with Het Nieuwsblad, Arno’s brother told us more about how the recordings are going. “I was there on Monday, and it sounded good,” said Peter Hintjens. “In between, he has to go to the hospital almost every day to have fluid pumped from his abdomen. But it still works.”
la paloma
Arno has not yet revealed what we can expect. But the singer has already announced one title: ‘La paloma’, a song he wrote for the French singer Mireille Mathieu. Normally the record should be finished before the summer. He does not know whether Arno will experience the release himself. “Everyone dies, me too. In my current state I accept that. I’m not complaining. I say ‘thank you’ to life.”
The Ostend singer has been battling pancreatic cancer since November 2019. He initially kept the news to himself, but immediately underwent chemotherapy treatment. In April 2021, Arno was again hospitalized for examinations. Then he took a rest. The planned concert series, which would continue later in 2021 and in the spring of 2022, was cancelled. In its place came a mini tour. In February 2022, Arno already appeared on the stage of the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels three times, followed by several concerts in the Kursaal in Ostend. His last concert in the AB for the time being was cancelled.
