NApoli, 13 Aug. (askanews) – Yet another summer of fires in Europe, the fire devastated vegetation in Italy, Greece, Spain, Albania and Montenegro. The balance is two dead, with thousands of displaced people and incalculable environmental damage. The bonfires, almost always malicious or due to neglect, are fueled by a heat wave that is affecting southern Europe with temperatures well above average.

The firefighters struggle daily to circumscribe the bonfires, the battle against the flames comes from the sky and from the ground, but often leaves the devastation on the ground.

The Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sànchez launched an appeal to prudence while the situation remains criticized in the southern region of Andalusia, where in 2000 they were evacuated by hotels near the famous beaches of Tarifa, and also in the Asturias, the northern Atlantic region much less accustomed to fires.

The Balkans are also heavily affected by the bonfires: the city of Delvina in Albania is surrounded by the flames and the inhabitants are on the run. It is not better in Greece and Montenegro where there are still dozens of active outbreaks. During the return phase, the fire that affected the Vesuvius National Park (Naples), with the flames that no longer advance and the reclamation operations began.
