At the Frisian village of De Hoeve, just across the border at Frederiksoord, a high -speed hot air balloon landed in a meadow. A person died, reports the Fryslân safety region.
Earlier in the evening, the safety region reported that six people were taken to the hospital with an ambulance. According to the Fryslân safety region, there were 34 people in the basket.
Emergency services approached the accident in large numbers. There would be at least seven ambulances and two trauma helicopters. According to Omrop Fryslân the big passenger balloon went up in Joure. The other passengers were taken to a reception place.
The Frisian news channel also reports that the balloon has bounced on the ground several times at the landing, where several people would have fallen out of the basket. The KNMI balloon shipping for this evening also warned of peaks in the wind. Around the time of the landing, winds of 17 knots have been observed, which is a lot for a balloon.
