It is the morning that former Jumbo chief Frits van Eerd will hear the verdict in the big money laundering case against him: two years in prison for money laundering, bribery and forgery. While the media gather at the court, actor and Jumbo face Frank Lammers quickly sends him a message. “Strength. It will be fine,” he applied.
“And I thought that was going to happen,” says Lammers in the podcast ‘Ni Na Lammers Listen’ by Omroep Brabant.
Van Eerd was sentenced last week to two years in prison for bribery, money laundering and forgery. Due to his exemplary function as a former supermarket boss, the judges decided to impose a heavier punishment, then was demanded.
“I believe in Frits are relative innocence.”
Despite the heavy verdict, Lammers never doubts the intentions of Van Eerd. “I do know Frits a bit and I believe in Frits’s innocence … or his relative innocence.”
According to the actor, they are more errors that arise from Van Eerd’s enormous passion for collecting and special assets than from criminal motives. “If we collect Playmobil and you have to pay for 90 euros in cash for that, then you do that too.” You cannot compare the amounts, but according to Lammers the example illustrates what intention behind it is.
In court it was guessing what Van Eerd’s motive was. He also violated his own Jumbo behavior rules and that is ‘extraordinary bad’, the court ruled last week.
“Fritske boy … when you hear this .. Strength!”
According to Lammers, that Jumbo is bothered by this is outside of dispute. “Van Eerd was a great leader and CEO of the company … Communicative strong and strong in trade and also creatively strong. To speak for myself: with those commercials he was always able to think along very well and see what would or would not work. So we miss him.”
In the podcast, Frank turns very directly to Van Eerd: “Fritske boy … when you hear this .. Strength!”
