Apparently Donald Trump does not want to show any memories of his direct predecessors when visiting the White House. According to CNN, portraits of the former president Barack Obama, George W. Bush and George HW Bush moved to the upper part of a staircase to which only a few have access.
Break with decades of tradition
According to two CNN sources, Trump ordered to place Obama’s portrait at the head of the “Grand Staircase” for the presidential residence-an area that only a few employees and secret service agents can enter. Both Bush portraits were also moved there.
Trump thus deviates from a long tradition: usually portraits of the youngest ex-presidents hang in clearly visible places for guests and visitors. It is already the second time that Trump had Obama’s portrait surround. Previously, he had put it on another side in the “Grand Foyer” and instead hung a painting of himself – with a raised Faust after the attempt to attack in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The hanging could be due to Trump’s trouble with Obama and the Bushs. George W. Bush commented on Trump’s inauguration in 2017 with “That what some weird shit” and later performed together with Obama in a video for USAI employees after Trump closed the authority. His father, the late George HW Bush, called Trump a “chatter” and stated that he voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Open criticism and magnificent redesign
Obama openly criticized Trump in his first and second term – most recently in April because of his attacks at universities and law firms as well as the withdrawal from a “regular -based system” of alliances and world trade.
In addition to political breaks, Trump has made numerous changes to the equipment of the White House since returning to office. He had the historical lawn of the rose garden replaced by concrete and plans a 200 million dollar ballroom in the style of his Mar-A-Lago investment.
He designed the Oval Office with gold leaf decorations to his taste. In June he removed a bust of Martin Luther King Jr. and a Swedish ivy plant that has been standing there for 50 years. He tripled the number of paintings, added gold-plated accents, eagle statues and even putten figures from Mar-A-Lago, where he spends the most weekends.
