The age -old Knotlinde in the center of Gieten literally gets a helping hand. Four steel pipes were recently applied to strengthen the trunk. This should prevent the tree from falling over in the future.
It is an impressive appearance, but the Knotwilg at the former Rabobank office has also lost stability. Not so strange, since the tree was planted somewhere in the eighteenth century. In the following years, the shovel regularly went into the ground for the construction of cables, pipes and sewerage.
All those work in the neighborhood has affected the tree, as Landscape Management Drenthe also saw. The roots are damaged and the trunk is further eroded. The chance that the tree would die became increasingly greater. Because of this scenario, the linden is regularly pruned. After ‘cracking’ there would be no damage to surrounding buildings.
With landscape management the idea for more serious papers arose, so that the knot tree can stand the test of time. With four steel scaffolding pipes, Boom is endlessly anchored for a long time in the watering can.
“Because of this measure, there is more stability in the tribe,” explains André Efftink, tree specialist from Landscape Management Drenthe. “With the right care and support, this age -old Knotlinde can hopefully stay for many years.”
The idea of a steel backrest has previously been applied to a hit linden. But it never happened before with a tree like in Gieten, writes landscape management.
