The German hockey men missed early moving into the semi-finals at the European Home Championship.
After the opening victory against France (3: 2), the world champion saved a 1-1 in the second group game against the strongest preliminary round opponent England and can now seal the entry into the preliminary round with a victory in the final game against Poland on Tuesday (7.30 p.m.). A draw may even be enough against the Poles who have lost their first two group games.
“We have had a hard time to bite our teeth for a long time,” said national coach André Henning in Magentasport: “It was up to me at the beginning, but in the end we had more chances and more corners and were at least closer to victory.”

Gonzalo Peillat compensates for the penalty corner
In front of 8,200 visitors to the Mönchengladbach Hockey Park, both teams fought an exciting and combat-emphasized game with strong rows of defense. After the English leadership, Gonzalo Peillat (52.) still managed to compensate for the DHB selection by a remarkable shot from James Gall (45th minute).
After a long waiting time, Germany finally wants to go back to the European Championship throne. This was last achieved in 2013. At the recent edition of the tournament two years ago – also in Mönchengladbach – it was only a disappointing fourth place. For the German women, after the successful start (4: 1 over France) on Monday, it continues with an absolute classic – at 8:30 p.m. the opponent is the name of the Netherlands.
