Yet there is little whore mood because despite the profit, the turnover is declining and the number of air loads and passengers do not rise. The airport gets its yield for the most part from subsidies. The profit is mainly made by the one -off yield of solar panels around the airport.
“So there is a profit, but the way in which is quite artificial. Ostend actually has the same problems as the regional airport in Antwerp,” says Professor Wouter Dewulf, aviation economist at the Uantwerpen. “The turnover, which gets an airport through the travelers and the Cargo, clearly lags behind. The 30,000 tons of Cargo that one gets is really lean, especially for an airport that profiles itself as a cargohub.”
