The end of a great misunderstanding: Portuguese international João Palhinha changes on loan from FC Bayern to Tottenham Hotspur. This was announced by the German record champions on Sunday evening. As the Pay TV broadcaster Sky previously reported, Palhinha was already in London and should be used on August 7 in the friendly against Munich.
Tottenham initially borrowed the midfielder, but therefore secured a purchase option for the coming summer. This is 25 million euros and can increase up to 30 million euros through bonus payments. The rental fee amounts to up to five million euros, and Tottenham Palhinhas takes over a complete salary of up to ten million euros gross per year.
Bavaria’s sports director Max Eberl said in a message: “Unfortunately, João Palhinha did not come up with the hoped-for operating times at FC Bayern last season. With Tottenham Hotspur we have found the best solution for all sides. João can complete a whole season at the top international level there.”
Already at the 2-1 of the Bavarians in the test game against Olympique Lyon on Saturday, Palhinha was no longer part of the team. The former FC Fulham player switched to FC Bayern in the summer of 2023 for a transfer of around 51 million euros. Previously, a transfer had failed on the last day of the previous transfer period.
Palhinha was considered an ex-coach Thomas Tuchel’s wish player. Under the new coach Vincent Kompany, the central midfield actor recently played only a subordinate role. Last season he played 25 competitive games for the Munich.
