The tragic death of Laura Dahlmeier has triggered great dismay in the entire biathlon world. As a farewell, France’s sports director Stéphane Bouthiaux remembers the exceptional biathlete Dahlmeier, who set new standards in her active time.

Like everyone else, he was “shocked” about Dahlmeier’s death, wrote Bouthiaux in a contribution for the “Nordic Magazine”, in which he remembered the outstanding biathlete.

“She was a UFO in biathlon sport. She came at a young age [in den Weltcup] And was very strong, “the official looked back.” She won everything before she quickly devoted herself to her passion. That was more the mountains than biathlon. “

Dahlmeier had “a real engine”

As a ski hunter, Dahlmeier was more or less unique, enthused Bouthiaux. “Thanks to a very special technique, Laura was very strong on the skis. She was very explosive and very relaxed at the same time, had a very short and very powerful movement after which she relaxed for a long time. Her technique was not necessarily impressive, but damn efficient and made it very quickly. It was a very economic technology while she had a real engine,” summarized the sports director of the French team.

According to Bouthiaux, Dahlmeier was the “perfect prototype of a biathlete”.

“She gave her coaches a few sleepless nights”

At the same time, the German was also not a typical biathlete. “At the peak of her career, she was the girl who did not hesitate to interrupt a training session for a second to go into the mountains. She certainly gave her coaches a few sleepless nights,” joked Bouthiaux.

Dahlmeier simply made her “own decision without taking things too seriously. I think she always did what she wanted to do, how she wanted and when she wanted. This is probably what made her strong. The attempt to be someone else would not have suited her,” the French sports director of one of the best biathletes of all time.
