Young people who with their cars already drifting over the smooth asphalt of parking space Karbeel, horn concerts and loud music. Every week, and sometimes several times a week, local residents on the Van Schaikweg, Klapel and Klokkenlag suffer from it. They demand that the municipality and police take action and have therefore started a petition.
“Especially during the weekend it is hit in the evenings and at night, but sometimes also during the week,” says local Martin Savenije, who started the petition on Petitie24.nl. “It is a noise until well into the night. Groups of drivingmers gather here and at some point they start drifting with their cars. That is accompanied by a lot of noise and screaming. Usually they are cars with a crunchy exhaust. It thumps through everywhere. We have often reported it to the police and the municipality, but they only point to each other.”
His neighbor Hans Eilering confirms that. “This was a wasteland, but they have put a temporary parking space there. There is nice smooth asphalt. There is then driven around the lampposts with drifting cars. We regularly say to each other:” There are a few tires smoked there again. “”
On the corner of the Van Schaikweg and the Klokkenslag, opposite the new zoo in Emmen, there is a temporary parking space Karbeel. You have to park there until 7 p.m., but in the evenings the access is free. A group of car enthusiasts regularly uses this. It has become a meeting place for.
But local residents are fed up with the nuisance. According to Savenije, several people have already moved because of the nuisance and a neighbor would even have searched for other work because of the nightly nuisance.
“And the police do nothing. They can only take action if they catch people in the act,” says a frustrated eiling. “Often enough we see agents passing by, but we have the idea that they are looking the other way,” adds Savenije.
The local residents of the Van Schaikweg, Klepel and Klokkenlag have thought about a solution. “A solution could be that the parking lot is closed in the evening, or that there is also paid parking in the evening,” Savenije is already thinking along with the municipality. “Together we hope to come to a good solution.”
The police confirm that it has received several reports of noise pollution in recent months. A spokesperson said that agents look at his being several times, but that no criminal offenses were seen at the time.
“It has been told local residents that they must and can immediately call the police when the nuisance takes place,” a spokesperson said. “There is also more often surveillance by the police and boas.” According to the police, the municipality is in principle responsible for combating nuisance.
