She had done groceries in the morning and parked her scooter in De Steeg at her apartment complex in the De Mare shopping center. “After my afternoon nap I came back and my mobility scooter was gone,” says Reijha Khatien.

Full of surprise, she first checks her shed, but no mobility scooter there either. She reports to the police.

The 46-year-old has five artificial joints and notices that life without a mobility scooter is very difficult for her. “I have also been homeless for three years in the past and finally had my life on track again,” she says. Normally she drives throughout Alkmaar, but a round to the supermarket with her walker is now the highest attainable.

How long does Reijha have to go without a mobility scooter?

The Alkmaarse reports the police immediately. But now a week later she has not heard of that. A year and a half ago, Reijha received a mobility scooter through the municipality of Alkmaar.

There she also told her story, but the municipality points to the police. “I don’t know who to wait for and what I can go after,” says Reijha. “I have no idea how long it will take. But without a mobility scooter I lose all my freedom.”
