A huge monumental villa from 1891 itself: it is the impossible mission of the 38-year-old Rudy van Beurden. Fortunately, he gets special help from foreign adventurers. In exchange for a place to sleep and food, they help for free with odd jobs in the Eindhoven villa. “Super fat, living in the brewery”, Rudy shines.
The wind blows through the cracks of the Zolderdak. In some places you can even look through it. Fortunately, Rudy can also look figuratively through the shortcomings of his villa. “This is my boy’s dream! It is a beautiful building and a unique opportunity.”
Bizarre
Do you know what you are starting? Rudy even asked Rudy that when purchasing the building in the autumn last year. “That’s all the reactions. Someone really jumped up and screamed no Seeing the photos, “laughs Rudy.” It’s bizarre. I sometimes can’t believe it myself. I was really looking for a challenge. “
And he has found that challenge: more than 300 square meters of DIY pleasure of more than 130 years old. He bought the house on his own. He said goodbye to his comfortable rental home. In addition to his work as an independent chairman and presenter, he is now a construction worker in his own house.

What needs to be done? “A lot,” Rudy broke a deep sigh and he laughs. The list is long: renew the complete slate roof, insulate everything, leveling the floors, a new bathroom, a new kitchen, new garden, new toilet and more. “Actually just everything,” laughs Rudy. “But the basis is good.”
A 32-year-old Italian is busy vacuuming and weeding weeds. She is the second to help for free in exchange for costs and lodging. She stays for two weeks. “I want new experiences,” she explains her choice. She also wants to improve her English and visit Dutch tourist places. Whether she already regrets? “Certainly not,” she laughs. Earlier a boy from Jamaica came to help.

Donkey
“The help is really a huge motivation. It is also very pleasant,” Rudy explains his creative idea for help. In his backpack time 20 years ago he helped others in Australia and France, also for costs and lodging. “I helped a Dutch couple building a donkey stable in France,” he says.
Rudy is also handy. He studied Architecture at Eindhoven University of Technology. As a kid he already set off with his father, who is now a retired plumber. De Kleine Rudy also loved to make drawings of houses.
Dark winter days
“It is so characteristic. A unique location, close to the center and with a large driveway,” he says proudly. Yet there have also been dark winter days when he didn’t like it anymore. “What did I start? Could I turn it back!”, He thought.

Yet it is not just ruin. The living room, conservatory and a guest room are already spic and span. He already rents out the guest room regularly. The spaces look like they’re like that in one magazine be able to.
The adventurer expects to be busy with for at least another five years the project. “This is really what I want,” he shines. What keeps him going? He lags: “I have the right combination of experience and naivety.”
