D-Wave Quantum announced a new strategic development initiative yesterday. Investors seem to be convinced and access.

• D-Wave Quantum starts initiative for extended cryogenic packaging
• Accelerates development of quantum processors (gate model & annealing)
• Cooperates with NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory

The new initiative builds on D -Waves of existing technology leadership in the area of superconductive cryogenic packaging and is intended to expand the multicichip packaging skills, equipment and processes of the company, as the press release says. By strengthening the manufacturing efforts with the latest technology, D-Wave aims to accelerate its cross-platform technology development activities and at the same time maintain and expand basic components of its supply chain.

Cooperation with NASA JPL and technological progress

As part of this initiative, D-Wave uses the comprehensive expertise and processes of NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). By using the JPL’s superconducting bump-bond process, D-Wave demonstrated an end-to-end-sucliping connection between chips. This work is intended to form an important basis for the scaling of both D-waves annealing architectures as well as the fluxonium-based gate-model architectures. D-WAVE is of the opinion that superconductive bump bonds will be decisive for the scalable control of fluxonium and interconnectivity in multicchip quantum processor architectures. In addition, D-WAVE acquires equipment and develops processes with the aim of increasing the circuit density in its pioneering production of superconductive circuit boards (PCBS), which is required for both scaling to larger processors and for the support of the analog-digital quantum computing technology.

Dr. Trevor Lanting, Chief Development Officer at D-Wave, commented on the broadcast: “The scaling of both annealing and gate model quantum computers requires high-performance packaging. We believe that this strategic initiative will enable us to further expand our management position in the development of quantum system technologies and our exciting and aggressive product roadmap to support for 100,000 qubits “.
