Criticism of time and commitment
Despite the desired environmental friendliness, the project causes discussions. Critics: Lonardo DiCaprio accused the inside of his public commitment as a UN peace ambassador in contradiction to his investment in Israel, especially in view of the current humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. Since the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas in October 2023, the situation in the region continues to come to a head.
UN General Secretary António Guterres spoke of a “humanitarian catastrophe epic dimensions” at the end of July 2024. So far, the actor has not publicly commented on the political reactions to the hotel project. An official start of construction is currently still pending.
