The world has known Léon Marchand since last year. Now the swimming star has shown his class again.
At the Olympic Games in Paris, the French Schimm star Léon Marchand won four gold medals. Now the 23-year-old impressed again: At the World Cup in Singapore, he swam over 200 meters in the semi-finals in 1: 52.69 minutes-and thus clearly undercut the previous world record.
The previous record came from 2011. At that time, Ryan Lochte from the USA had struck in 1: 54.00 minutes. So Marchand was 1.31 seconds faster – a clear announcement in the fight for gold.
The Frenchman has been an absolute top of the world since the Olympic Games last year. In Paris, he had won bronze in addition to the four gold triumphs. His new record time over the 200 meters was also the first world record of this swimming World Cup in Singapore.
