On the weekend from July 30th to August 2, the Wacken Open Air takes place for the 34th time. The Heavy Metal Festival was launched in 1990 with around 800 visitors: inside and has since developed into one of the largest heavy metal festivals worldwide. Also this year around 85,000 visitors are expected in the municipality of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein: on the inside. Now the journey for this year’s edition has started.
Arrival in Wacken Open Air 2025: First visitors: Interior arrives in
As the “Spiegel” reports, the first visitors are said to have arrived at the campsite on Sunday (July 27). Due to the bad weather, the bottom of the festival site is heavily softened. Therefore, tractors had to move to the parking spaces.
The weather situation does not look better for the coming days either. Rain has been announced on several days, and the sun should only seem occasionally. Apart from that, the journey has so far been largely easy and half of the expected guests are said to have arrived by noon.
Traffic concept should prevent traffic jams
On your Website The organizers once again point out the traffic concept. This was introduced in 2024 after there was considerable traffic jams in 2023 and an entry stop had to be imposed for the first time in the history of the festival. At that time, the visitors were led to the site over several routes, which significantly simplified the journey. “Please follow the signs of the routes that you have selected in your Access Pass,” says the page.
Nevertheless, overloaded roads can also be expected this year. As the “NDR” reports, traffic jams could occur in particular on the A23. Depending on the direction of the arrival, the journey can be delayed by up to 40 minutes. The B5, which is an important arrival route for many from the north, is blocked this year. Therefore, these visitors are diverted: inside via the A7 and the B430.
