A 28-year-old man from Zwartemeer confesses that he had 184 kilos of fireworks in the house. After the purchase a few years ago he did not know what to do with it. The public prosecutor called the stored amount of professional fireworks ‘a time bomb’.

220 hours of community service and a suspended prison sentence of six months was demanded against the man. Often professional fireworks demand unconditional prison sentences, but the officer found that this suspect was not appropriate.

The man ran into the lamp in December 2022 after an anonymous tip about the sale of illegal fireworks. The mayor of Emmen, alerted by the police about the find, called the storage life -threatening. In total it involved 9,560 pieces of bang fireworks.

In addition, the man also had consumer fireworks in the house that can be purchased legally. The Public Prosecution Service decided not to blame him.

The man had seen videos on YouTube and decided to purchase the fireworks. That was about two years before the find by the police. After the purchase, he did not know what to do with it. He had previously saved it on an acquaintance on a farm.

The police noticed that the fireworks were also crafted. For example, a few fireworks were connected. The man said he thought it was so safer.

He has known and said he regrets the purchase at the session in the Zwolle court. The public prosecutor pointed out that fireworks are stored in special bunkers for nothing. Here it was in the attic in a residential area. “This was a time bomb. One spark and the whole thing explodes,” said the public prosecutor.

The suspect still pointed out to the court that the case remained hanging above his head for a very long time. The court ultimately rules on 11 August.
