Three citizens were killed on Sunday in a Russian drone attack on a bus in the northern Ukrainian region of Soemy. Twenty people were also injured. Local authorities report this Via Telegram. The attack took place around 4.30 pm near the village of Joenakivka, located about eight kilometers from the Ukrainian border with Russia, writes The Kyiv Independent.

According to AFP news agency, the dead are all women between 66 and 78 years old. The passengers of the bus – 39 in total – were inhabitants of the village of Ivolzjanske, writes the governor of Soemy, Oleh Hryhorov, on Telegram.

According to the governor, the passengers were previously evacuated from their hometown to escape from Russian violence, but they were still allowed to visit their houses regularly by bus. “This bus was repeated under enemy fire,” said Hryhorov. The governor has added images of the totally destroyed and burnt -out bus to his messages.

As a border region, Soemy is extra hard hit by Russian attacks. Since this spring, the Russian army has been increasingly occupying more ground in the region. Thousands of residents have since been evacuated. In April, the Russian army carried out one of its deadliest attacks: 34 people died in a rocket attack on the capital of the region.
