With metastases of colon cancer, most people quickly think of the lungs or liver. But in one in ten patients the metastases happen in an ‘organ’ that almost nobody knows: the peritoneum. “This body part can be a henchman for cancer,” warns physician-researcher Jesse Demuytere (UGent). Together with the well-known intestinal specialist Luc Colemont (Stop Bowel Cancer), he tells which treatments are currently there and how he wants to save lives with an ‘peritone-inventory’.
