Two bunches of flowers in front of the door and on top of a card with the text ‘with sincere condolences’. There is a large blue sticker from the police on the front door, with white letters it says: “This space is sealed by the police.”
The house where the police found the body of a deceased woman last week is abandoned. Local residents are full of questions. Because how could this have happened?
It is pretty quiet today on the Oldambtstraat in Assen. Local residents seem somewhat embarrassed after last Tuesday’s police visit. For the second time in more than a year, the police come to a corner house where a very old woman lives with her adult daughter.
The police are at the door after a report from the Actium housing association, the owner of the rental home. What exactly does that report entail? The police cannot say too much about that. “At least not such a signal that we were allowed to enter the house right away,” explains a spokesperson.
But after a conversation with the daughter, the police believe that she should take a look in the house. After permission from the daughter, agents enter the house. There they find the body of the old woman.
As mentioned, it is the second time that the police are on the doorstep at the house. In May 2024 there is also a conversation at the door with the daughter, but a direct reason to go inside is not according to the spokesperson.
Local residents announced today that they find it incomprehensible that this could have happened in their neighborhood. “We have approached several aid agencies in the past period. We had not seen the woman for a long time,” said a local resident.
