Ex-Wimbledon winner Goran Ivanišević was supposed to bring Stefanos Tsitsipas back on success-but he quickly scolded his attitude. Now the paths separate again.

The collaboration was short – and shaped by tensions. Now Stefanos Tsitsipas and coach Goran Ivanišević are going separately. Just a few days before the start of the Masters tournament in Toronto, the Greek tennis professional announced the end of the partnership with the former Wimbledon winner.

On Instagram, Tsitsipas spoke of a “short but intensive experience” with the Croatian. It was only at the end of May, at the beginning of the lawn season, that he had brought Ivanišević into the team.

At the beginning of July, Ivanišević had already publicly criticized the training behavior of his protégé. The 53-year-old said the Serbian portal “Sports Club”, Tsitsipas wanted, “but he doesn’t do anything”. He does not recognize any progress. The Greek is too good to stand outside the top 10 – but to return there, he has to solve things outside of tennis, says Ivanišević.

The collaboration was without success. In Halle (Westphalia) there was two ends for Tsitsipas in round, in Wimbledon he had to give up his opening match due to back problems. The earlier third of the world ranking is currently in 26th place in the ATP ranking.

Despite the criticism, Tsitsipas was conciliatory. He wrote about Ivanišević: “I only have respect for Goran. Not only for what he has achieved in tennis, but also for who he is as a person.”

Ivanišević had previously successfully looked after Novak Djoković from 2018 to 2024.
