A bright forest fire destroyed a piece of nature and gate on Vennenlaan in Oisterwijk on Thursday evening. A witness saw a group of young people running away at the old site of the Buitenwembad Het Staalbergven. Because the fire brigade was quick, it was prevented that the fire could expand.
The witness first saw flames in the forest around six o’clock and then running the youngsters away. But because the woman did not have a phone with her, she first wanted to go home to warn the fire brigade. Fortunately she came across someone on the way who had a phone with her and could call 112.
The flames struck high in the trees, a pine tree turned into a huge torch in a short time. Due to the rain of recent times, the risk of expanding natural fires has recently been reduced. But according to a spokesperson for the Central and West Brabant Security Region, conifers can indeed burn very quickly and very brightly, which can still create a large natural fire.

Because the fire brigade was quick, it could be prevented that the roof of the old outdoor swimming pool caught fire. It is made of reeds and was only about five meters from the forest fire. The area that went up in flames was ultimately very limited. The police are investigating the case.
