The new sea lock in Zeebrugge, which must replace the outdated Visartsluis, is of great importance for access to the rear port. But the project is now in danger of being considerably delayed. Flemish MP Jeremie Vaneeckhout (Groen) points out recent information from Minister Lydia Peeters (Open VLD), which shows that there will be no work on the new lock for the next five years.
“It appears that the Vandammesluis, who must remain employed during the works on the Visartsluis, is in a dramatic state after decades of neglect,” says Vaneeckhout. “That causes great delays.”
