From July 24, 2025, the animated film runs “Grand Prix of Europe” in the cinemas. German-British co-production was created as part of the 50th anniversary of the European Park. It is told by the 50th race of the European Grand Prix, in which, among other things, the Europa-Park mascot Edda and ED take part. In their competition through Europe, the two mice have to prevail against all kinds of animal competitors and their (dirty) tricks.
The synchronous speakers include Hannes Maurer, Maria Koschny, DJ Bobo – and Jan Delay. The Hamburg musician speaks the fidgety sports moderator parrot Enzo. Rolling Stone met Jan Delay for a conversation.
Have you ever been to Europa-Park?
I was once in the Europa-Park. However, I’m not the type for roller coaster and fast carousels at all. So I hadn’t tried anything about all of the festivities. I walked around once, looked at that. I’m just not the fair type.
Do you have similarities with Enzo?
Do I have a similarity to Enzo? I don’t think because I don’t speak so loudly and quickly. I am also not a guided guy like him either. I don’t know him privately – but he is always very excited in front of the camera.
What was the biggest challenge for you when talking about synchronized?
The biggest challenge at Enzo was that I had to speak very loudly and excited all the time. It is of course something different for the voice if you have to speak loudly and quickly and excited all the time. Then you are exhausted faster. But in the end I was not drained – it was all in the green.
Did you also have contact with DJ Bobo who speaks Böckli?
Nah, as a voice actor you have no contact because you do not collect it together – not like the actors play together. You are all alone in the studio and only speak your own parts.
Are you a Grand Prix fan? Do you have a favorite car or a favorite driver?
I have to honestly say that I am not a Grand Prix fan in the real sense. I’m just not a car racing type. I only know the Grand Prix from the film – and even I don’t really know the film, I haven’t seen the whole film in a row because I was unfortunately sick at the premiere.
What is your favorite animal and which character from the film is your loved one, apart from Enzo?
I don’t have a real favorite animal or favorite character in the film. From the places that I have seen so far, my favorite animal is definitely my moderation colleague, the camel. He says almost nothing.
Which children’s films/ trick films did you grew up with?
So definitely a lot of series. Above all, “Captain Future”. That was my favorite sign. Then “Mr. Rossi is looking for happiness” and “Tom and Jerry”. So much for the cartoon films. And other children’s films? Boah. Difficult. “Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn”, then all the Czech children’s series. “The flying Ferdinand” and “The Fairy Tale Bride”. That was the shit back then.
Is it ok sometimes to trick in life to the first to achieve his goal?
Does it allow it to be tricked to be the first to get to the goal? I think so. However, only as long as this is not unfair to others. So if you just improve your own result and therefore do not cut or restrict the others in any form. Then you can do that. Always depends on the trick. Nobody else is allowed to disadvantage – and of course I shouldn’t hurt anyone. That has to be fair. But there are also fair tricks.
What job do you have in the amusement park, would you work there?
Phew, since as I said I am not a type of pleasure, it would be difficult to have a job there that I enjoy.
I think if so, I would stand somewhere on a stage and somehow rap – if there was a stage. Or I would stand in the kitchen and cook something.
When will your next album come? Can you tell us something about that?
I don’t know when my new album is coming. I make music, but that’s still under lock and key – until it is time at some point. But I don’t know when that is.
The questions asked child reporters Ted.
