It was a wild week full of cryptic song lines, mysterious advertising boards and Mick Fleetwood, who used “Frozen Love” on the headphones. But waiting has an end. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks will finally put their album “Buckingham Nicks” released in 1973 on September 19.
The first and only album of the long-standing Fleetwood Mac bandmate and ex-partner was not available for decades and has never been released before. It was remastered by the original analog tapes and pressed on vinyl in different colors. The newly mastered opener “Crying in the Night” can be heard here.
Albumflop, turning point and music history
Published on September 5, 1973, the original album “Buckingham Nicks” was recorded in the Sound City Studios in Los Angeles. When the album flopped, Polydor threw her out of the contract. Nicks started working in a restaurant in Beverly Hills called Clementine’s-until “Buckingham Nicks” producer Keith Olsen played the album Mick Fleetwood-and the rest is history.
“”[Wir] knew what we had as a duo – two songwriters who could sing really well together. And it was very natural from the start, ”Nicks told Liner Notes towards Rolling-Stone author David Fricke.
“It has a resistance that you hope for – from two kids that were pretty young for this work,” added Buckingham.
Limited edition, singles and digital publication
“Buckingham Nicks” (Rhino High Fidelity) is limited to 5,000 copies, with a special edition of 2,000 copies that contains replicas from two 7-inch singles: “Crying in the night” B/W “Stephanie” and “Don’t Let Me Down Again” B/W “Races are run”. In addition, the album Digital, CD and as a vinyl via selected retailers will be available.
In December 2012, Buckingham and Nicks talked about the album with Rolling Stone and the possibility of a tour that fans have hoped for for years. The interviews were led separately, at a distance of about one week. Nicks revealed that they had recently recorded an outake of the 1973 album, which had been “swept under the carpet” all the years. “Next year is the 40th anniversary of ‘Buckingham Nicks’ and we hope that we can then release the album,” she said at the time. “People have been waiting forever. Fleetwood Mac has no problem at all. They know.”
“It would be crazy to play these songs again”
She also spoke about a possible tour with the musicians who had played on the album – including her long -time guitarist Waddy Wachtel and drummer Jim Keltner. “We would actually go on stage and play the complete ‘Buckingham Nicks’ album … for Lindsey and it would be crazy to experience these songs again,” she said.
Buckingham agreed, but pointed out that concerts could only take place after the next world tour with Fleetwood Mac; He considered it “logistically impossible” to insert them between two tour sections. “Stevie, if you are serious about the ‘Buckingham Nicks’ tour, let’s wait,” he said. “I have been saying Stevie for years that we should take up ‘Buckingham Nicks’ again. I know that there is a market for this … Something uplifting happens when we both work together, and that arouses interest … but it is difficult to grasp. But I say that for years. If you do it, then right.”
Has the time come now? You will still be allowed to dream.
