The case was previously dismissed by a lack of evidence, but the investigation was later reopened by new developments. The prosecutors had also demanded a trial against Depardieu in August because of the accusations of Arnould.

In May, the 76-year-old Depardieu was sentenced in a separate case by a judge in Paris to a conditional imprisonment of eighteen months for assaulting two women on a film set in 2021.
The actor has been accused of sexual abuse more often in recent years. Depardieu has always denied the allegations.
