Jürgen Klinsmann was a turning point in the career of HSV newcomer Jordan Torunarigha. The central defender played only five games under the trainer at Hertha BSC in the 2019/20 season, but took decisive knowledge for his further career. “Jürgen Klinsmann was very important for me and my career. Before he came to Hertha, nobody from the coaching team (head coach was ante Covic, editor at the time) correctly. If one had injured himself, I was thrown in. If I played badly, it said: He is not that far. Image “interview.
Klinsmann spoke to him and showed him a clear plan. “He said, ‘We are in the relegation battle, I put on the older players first. But your time will come.’ I am upset with it – it was a turning point for me. In the notorious Hertha diary of the former national coach, he classified Torunarigha with the words: “Top talent, great added value possible with over 20 million euros.” The defense lawyer finds these words as a “great honor”.
So far, Torunarigha has not already played over 20 million euros. He initially left the old lady in 2022 to Kaa Ghent, after which a transfer of EUR 3 million was due. In the meantime, however, it had increased its market value to 13 million euros. For the Belgians, he developed into a regular, played 145 games before Torunarigha decided to make a new challenge and a transfer -free return to Germany after the end of the contract.

HSV was for Torunarigha “how love at first glance”
The HSV responsible had “immediately made him a very good feeling,” said Torunarigha: “It was almost like love at first glance.” At the beginning of May, the contact had already been made by the red pants. “In the days and weeks afterwards I led some video calls,” said the Chemnitzer, who signed in mid-July.
Torunarigha is aware of the difficult task of keeping the HSV in the Bundesliga after seven years of second class in the Bundesliga. “We are a promoted, in most games of the underdog. But with such a force the HSV has, it should be difficult to beat us in our own stadium. And we want to play away from the opponent: Boah, they are uncomfortable. We came here to stay in the Bundesliga.” He wants to take on a lot of responsibility and steer the game out of behind. “The trainers expect a lot from me. But I also had the task in Belgium with Ghent.” At the HSV, the central defender signed until 2028.
