The US Open will be in New York in a few weeks. Tennis professional Tatjana Maria missed the start of her preparation for the tournament on Tuesday.

Tatjana Maria was eliminated at the WTA tournament in Washington, DC in the first round. In the first round of the American Taylor Townsend, the German number one lost 4: 6, 5: 7 and thus missed the start of her preparation for the US Open.

Within just nine days, it was the third change in the topping for the 37-year-old. On July 13, she was still in the final of the lawn challenge in Newport, three days later she played on sand in Hamburg. The two-time mother from Bad Saulgau did not make the switch to hard court in the US capital.

Against Townsend, number 97 in the world, Maria had already led 4-0 in the second set. But her opponent fought back – and converted her first match ball against the 37th of the world rankings.

Maria was the only German starter at the tournament in Washington, endowed with around $ 1.3 million. The last Grand Slam of the Year, the US Open in New York, begins on August 24th. So far, Maria has never survived the second round in Flushing Meadows.
