Dawid Kownacki’s transfer to Hertha BSC is official. On Monday evening, the second division club confirmed the striker of Werder Bremen. Initially, the 28-year-old comes to the capital for one season on loan, after which, according to matching media reports, there is an obligation to buy up to 2.5 million euros.
“We were in exchange for a long time with Dawid and are very happy that it has now been possible to win it for us. He brings numerous properties that we were looking for-final strength, ball safety and header strength. He also has plenty of experience and has also demonstrated his qualities in the 2nd Bundesliga in the past few years,” said Hertha sports director Benjamin Weber.
Kownacki had spent the past season at Fortuna Düsseldorf and tied it to previous successful times with 13 goals and five assists in 29 games, but the second division team could not afford the purchase option agreed with Werder. Instead, the attacker is now going to the league competitor to Berlin: “I am looking forward to the Olympic Stadium and the city, but above all I look forward to the task at Hertha BSC. I want to help achieve the goals of the team.”
Werder had actually preferred a sale at first, it said. However, the EUR 3.5 million of the initially called were too much for Hertha. The club had paid one million sum since relegation (all Hertha transfers over the years). Mergim Berisha (27) from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is also considered the candidate, according to the “Kicker”, the transfer from Kownacki does not change anything. First of all, Hertha had to hand in to players to create scope.
