With no fewer than 86,000 departing travelers, Schiphol is experiencing the busiest day of this summer vacation today. Early in the morning, the terminals were full of holidaymakers who start their travel adventure.

“We love crowds, so we thought we wave our girlfriend who goes to Colombia,” Jeffrey jokes. Together with wife Kenny and their two -year -old son Jenoah, they also go to the aircraft and make it an outing.

“We knew it in advance and took it a bit into account,” say three friends who are about to fly to Lloret de Mar. “But everything is not too bad,” they say. “Go with the flow.”

Well -prepared

According to the Nacinda Mussendijk NaCinda Mussendijk, they are the best days to work. “You are always busy, you hear a lot of great stories and you see many more children who are enthusiastic to leave.”

According to her, travelers are well prepared: “You notice that people know it’s a busy day, so they really come on time,” she says happily. She even experienced that people were at the airport five hours in advance. Although the airport says it will be present for a maximum of 3 hours in advance for an intercontinental flight, she is happy with it. “That is very good, I also advise travelers to keep that up,” she laughs.

Yet this busiest day of the summer did not go completely without a struggle. In the morning there was a short computer failure in the flight information system, which caused delays. Yet, despite the delays, all passengers could travel today.

No strike, but action

The ground staff of KLM today held a public -friendly action. A strike was twice forbidden by the judge in recent weeks. “We do want to make us heard,” says gate agent and FNV member Jacqueline de Haas of KLM. Today they wore buttons with the text ‘Without us nothing flies’ and they sticked stickers with the same text on boarding passengers of passengers.

“We are also all very important links of the company. And we want our employer to appreciate that too. Our blue heart is broken,” says De Haas. KLM colleague and FNV member Nicoline De Liefde adds: “We don’t ask for an extremely high salary increase, but at least an inflation correction.”
