The police worked closely with the authorities in Romania. Seven suspects were arrested in that Eastern European country. Four of them have since been transferred to the Netherlands. All suspects have the Romanian nationality.
The suspects, men aged 20 to 43, contacted the women via social media. After having won their trust, they convinced the women to work in prostitution. When the women regretted, psychological pressure and violence were used. The men used the yields to buy luxury goods and Romanian real estate.
The Romanian and Dutch agents held several house searches on their action day, on July 1. In addition to the performance of the arrests, goods were seized and victims were taken care of.
Possibly the Romanian criminal organization to which the men belonged has been active for years. The Romanian and Dutch police are continuing their cooperation for the time being.
