The Drentse Bicycle4Daagse has been in existence for sixty years, but the number of three starting places is certainly not in line with the ambition of the new chairman Alfred Schoenmaker: “I would have liked Meppel, but unfortunately that did not work.”
Tomorrow the Drentse Bicycle4Daagse will start, will be hoped for around 6,000 participants. Today, the Meppel bicycle4daagse will start. There they think they can attract more participants on their own.
The 60th anniversary will be celebrated in a big way, but there is still a small blemish in this year’s edition. “In Meppel they have different thoughts with the Four Days Marches, it is then about financing, that is a pity,” says chairman Alfred Schoenmaker, who certainly does not give up the courage. “We live in good harmony with each other and I will continue to try to involve Meppel in the club again.”
The party of the jubilee starts tonight in Westerbork. There, the starting signal is given there in the presence of King Jetta Klijnsma at 7 p.m. That is accompanied by music and a decorated bicycle parade. Tomorrow the Drentse Bicycle4Daagse will officially start in three villages, namely: Dalen, Diever and Westerbork. The standard distances are 40 and 60 kilometers, families with young children can take a shorter route.
