Felix Neureuther is a four -time father. The family comes first for the former ski racer.

Rosi Mittermaier’s death in January 2023 not only left traces for many fans, but also with the family of the double Olympic champion (departure and slalom 1976). In conversation with the “Zeit”, Felix Neureuther reports how very special his oldest daughter suffers from the loss of the grandmother.

While his small children were still too young to really understand death, his eldest daughter found his own way to deal with her grief: she painted pictures for her grandma and put her in the garden.

Neureuther explained to the newspaper: “There they were picked up by an angel and the grandma brought up to heaven.” This little ritual helped her – and yet she still has problems processing death. This reported Neureuther using an example: “The death of grandma to this day. If my daughter is sad, she still calls for grandma. She would like to be with her.”

At first he didn’t want to show his own grief. “I wanted to protect her,” says the former ski racer about dealing with his children. When visiting the grave together, he then realizes how a shame it is that his children can no longer experience their grandmother. He tries to give them comfort – with the idea that grandma is happy about her thoughts.

Neuruether continues: “And then we look forward to again.” The relationship with his father, Christian Neureuther, is also very narrow: “My dad is now 76, we have always held together. There is no day when we do not make calls. That may be unusual, but I don’t know it any other way.”
