The actress, which Professor Pomona Sprout played in the film adaptation of the fantasy youth book series, criticized the author of triggering so much anger within the transgender community.
In the podcast “A Gay Old Time” The open lesbian 84-year-old called the writer and the LGBTQI+community to deal with each other more polite and withdrawn.
Margoyles: “I really support this small group of transgender people with all my heart, and if you want me to use certain pronouns, I think that is right. If you can make people happy, you should do it.”

The trans debate around JK Rowling
In recent years there has been a real debate battle between Rowling and a whole ranks of the stars from the “Harry Potter” films. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson condemned their comments as hostile to trans. Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter and Tom Felton defended them before the allegations. Others, such as Rupert Grint, formulated it diplomatically (“I stand on the side of the trans community”).
The discussion about JK Rowling sparked itself from 2020 when it several times critically commented on certain positions of modern transactism – for example on the importance of biological gender in feminist discourse.
Although many found their statements as a transHOB, Rowling sees herself as an advocate of women’s rights and emphasizes that they do not want to exclude trans people. Nevertheless, she repeatedly spoke spitically about trans-topics that are discussed in the media on social media.
So she joked about her “exposure” as Terf (Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist). She announced sarcastic to want to write a book entitled “The Revenge of the Terf: How to get Cancelled While So Selling Millions of Books” and LISTE or shared tweets, in which trans women were shown as “men in clothes” or activist: inside.
