Attention animal lovers! Do you want to face vultures, giant ants eaters or red pandas this summer? You don’t have to travel the whole world to meet these special animals up close. You will find at a small distance from Zoetermeer Avifauna. Close to home and yet you feel like you’re on a safari.

Festive news from Avifauna: The new Gieren Valley Is officially opened! In honor of the 75th anniversary of the Bird Park, the Africa area has a substantial expansion. With over 2,000 square meters, this is the largest aviary in Avifauna so far. You like Freek Vonk between the vultures, meerkats and other animal species.

NEW: De Vierenvallei

You read that right: the new aviary in Avifauna is incredibly large. Here the vultures and the other residents get plenty of room to fly around or run around. You can also read that animal welfare is paramount to the name of the new area: Umvikeli. This word comes from the Zulu and means ‘protector’.

Avifauna has taken care of a group of seriously endangered Rüppells Vultures in the Gierenvallei. The animals were traded illegally and could not return to the wild, among other things because it was not known exactly where they came from. Now they get a second chance Umvikelitogether with their roommates: white headed vultures, secretary birds, vultures and much more.

Spot animal

Is it difficult to spot the animals in such a large stay? No! A typical African lodge has been recreated in the middle of the aviary. From this viewpoint you have a great view over the aviary.

In addition to the Rüppells Vieren, this is also a perfect place to discover a few other new residents of Avifauna. Grand ear foxes also walk around in the aviary. As the name suggests, these cute foxes can be recognized by their big ears. Also sweet: the meerkats have young! In addition to the African lodge you will see the small meerkats growing up this summer.

More than a bird park

Avifauna is known for many people as a real bird park, but there is much more to discover! For example, there is the Apeneiland, where dwarf papers and howler monkeys climb the trees above you. The playground has also been a favorite for the youngest safari heroes for years. Here they can climb to their heart’s content, from the slide, the height on the trampolines or racing on go -karts.

Unique at Avifauna are the Meet and Greets. This is a nice extra that you can book with your tickets. Walk along with the caregivers and enter the stays of the vultures, the giant anti -eater or the red pandas. This is the chance to view your favorite animals up close and learn about them.

Eye to eye with the birds

The bird demonstrations are the great pride of the park that everyone must have seen. A total of 100 birds fly along during this spectacle. Nhesian birds, pelicans, cockatoos, parrots, cranes and more sitting over your head while the caretaker teaches you everything about these beautiful animals.

Want to meet a bird up close? Then take a look at the Lori Landing. Here you walk among the friendly Loris, who love attention and food. In nature, Lori’s eat all day long, so in Avifauna they also get unlimited access to food. Buy a tub nectar and before you know it there are ten birds on your arm.
