Subsequent wind farms possible via other route connected to tunnel.

The cabinet has decided this week that the flow of the future wind farm thewind at sea (4 gigawatt power) will be brought ashore to the Eemshaven via the ‘Schiermonnikoog Wantij-Route’. For the longer term, a more complex route is being investigated via a tunnel, which can combine future wind energy of wind farms and CO2 transport to be installed. This choice is an important step in the development of the region and a future -proof energy supply in the Netherlands.

This ‘SchiermonnikooGroute’ is the only route that can be constructed in time and with sufficient certainty. The chosen route is constructed with proven techniques, for example with the use of a Wadtrecher – a special vehicle with a minimum impact on nature – and controlled drilling drilling, instead of open excavations. In this way, damage to nature and agricultural land is prevented as much as possible. The other, eastern routes investigated turned out to be too complex and not feasible for now.

About investments in the region. There was a need for clarity and it is good now. “

After publication of the decision, TenneT will start the project procedure. During this procedure, the Schiermonnikoog Wantij route is worked out in detail and in consultation with the region.

As part of the package, substantial investments are being made in the region with area investments of € 124 million to strengthen the quality of life in the area. The region decides for itself where these extra resources in the field of in particular sustainability and agriculture can best be used.

The decision will be published next week in the Staatscourant and on the RVO website.
