All 47,000 places available were forgiven this year, but not everyone reported. 1461 people who had registered have not registered in Nijmegen in recent days and therefore do not participate in the walking event. How many people have actually started, it will turn out later on Tuesday.

The first day, the runners traditionally brings the Betuwe, during the so -called Day of Elst, also known as blue Tuesday. This is about, among other things, the dike between Lent and Oosterhout, decorated by the blue village of Elst to return to Nijmegen via Bemmel. Wednesday the walkers will go to Wijchen, Thursday to Groesbeek and Friday it will go via Cuijk towards the traditional entry on Via Gladiola in Nijmegen.
Of all participants, more than 12 percent come from the municipality of Nijmegen. Most participants, almost 40 percent, run the 40 kilometers. More and more young people are participating in the event. For example, the average age is this edition 47.2 years. In 2019 that was 53 years old, last year 47.9 years.

During the walking event, hundreds of volunteers from the Red Cross commit themselves to helping everyone to the finish line. Last year 3600 hikers were helped with blisters. That year, the organization used 7900 Blaren sticks, 31,000 gloves, 13 kilometers of medical tape and 46 liters of camphor spirits, a foot cream. That edition reached the finish line on Friday.
The Red Cross has advised participants to bring this edition extra pairs of dry socks, expected rain can provide an extra challenge.
