Eddy Merckx is one of the biggest legends in cycling. The 80-year-old currently has to follow the Tour de France from the bedside.

Belgium’s cycling icon Eddy Merckx has had to undergo further operation in Antwerp. As the Belgian broadcaster Sporza reports, there were complications with a hip prosthesis used. The 80-year-old was treated in the hospital.

Already at the end of 2023, Merckx suffered a femoral neck broken in a training session by bike. As a result, he was used a prosthesis.

Merckx is one of the most successful racing drivers in history. Between 1965 and 1977 he celebrated a total of 525 wins. The Belgian won the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia five times, became a professional world champion three times and dominated numerous classics. He also set up an hourly world record.
