For Alexander Zverev, Wimbledon ended with a huge disappointment. A new trainer and tennis icon Rafael Nadal are supposed to bring the Hamburg back on the road to success.

After the first round in Wimbledon and the admission of mental problems, Alexander Zverev gets support from the Nadal family, according to a media report. The German tennis star is currently training in the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca with Toni Nadal, the uncle of 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal, who is also a mentor, Sky commentator Paul Häuser reports on X.

At first, Zverev’s management did not comment. However, Sky published videos of the training on Instagram. In the studio, houses explained that both sides will test the cooperation first, a final decision was still pending.

Rafael Nadal ended his career in November 2024. With 14 French Open titles, he is the most successful clay court player in history-Zverev also sees his greatest chance of a first Grand Slam success.

Is Becker’s advice heard? So far, Zverev has mainly been trained by his father Alexander Zverev Senior, Bruder Mischa accompanies him as a manager and advisor. “The father and the brother did it excellently, but it wasn’t good enough for the last step,” Tennis icon Boris Becker criticized: “You have the impression that he plays against the top players in the same leader and hopes that the result will be good.”

Becker had advised the Olympic champion of 2021 to reorganize his environment and the coaching staff. This had recently caused resentment at Zverev. “I think if I go well with me, I always do everything right. And if it goes badly, everyone is always very, very smart. Unfortunately, Boris is part of it,” said the 28-year-old in Stuttgart.

Zverev worked with external coaches such as Juan Carlos Ferrero, Ivan Lendl, David Ferrer and most recently Sergi Bruguera. “But they all left the boat after half a year. And that was his reasons,” said Becker in the Podcast “Becker Petkovic”.

After Wimbledon-Aus, Zverev announced changes that do not necessarily have to affect tennis. At the Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto at the end of July, he wanted to provide further answers. He canceled his planned sand tournament in Gstaad.
