In the Premier League, the next blockbuster transfer is bought: According to matching media reports, FC Arsenal with Sporting Lisbon should agree on a change from top striker Viktor Gyökeres: Gyökers should receive a five-year contract with the “Gunners”, Sporting will receive a transfer fee of the equivalent of 73 million euros, as the BBC reported.
The change was preceded by a small summer theater in Lisbon. The Swedish striker, who scored 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting in the past two seasons and thus had a decisive part of two championship titles in a row, had not appeared at the start of the training. In media reports there was talk of a strike. Gyökeres had been a man on the jump for weeks, supposedly there is said to have been an agreement with the sports management, according to which the striker may leave the club for a transfer fee of 70 million euros.
Gyökeres in the strike – replacement of more than 70 million euros
Sporting President Frederico Varandas rejected reports about such a “Gentleman’s Agreement”. Instead, the club boss referred to the contractually stipulated transfer fee of 100 million euros, but at the same time indicated that sporting would be ready to negotiate: “Everything can be ruled, the transfer market is open”he was quoted by the BBC.
Varandas confirmed that Sporting from Gyökeres and his team of consultants, who apparently wanted to force a change, could not be put under pressure. “If you are not ready to pay a reasonable price for Viktor, then we have no problem with the fact that he continues to play with us”said Varandas.
This could also be understood as an invitation to those responsible for Arsenal to add the price. Sports director Andrea Barta then made its way to Lisbon and, reportedly, submitted an improved offer for Gyökeres, the package should amount to up to 80 million euros, including additional payments.
Later breakthrough at Sporting
The Swedish striker could leave Arsenal at the end of the week for the preparation trip to Asia. However, this will have to be shown whether he will actually become the Torgient that the Gunners have recently missed.
