The defeat against Sweden raises (system) questions at the DFB team-especially in defense. For the time being, however, there was only slight regaration in public training on Sunday. The analysis is postponed.
When the players entered the training ground on Sunday morning, there were warm applause from the small grandstand of the sports center Buchlern. The DFB had invited families and friends of the players as well as members of the fan club German national team to public training. A total of 350 spectators were allowed to be there – and tried to stroke their team a bit.
We are in the ko phase. That is the most important thing. If we are allowed to lose a game, it was this now.
“My night was very short – I only slept for four hours”said Vice captain Sjoeke Nüsken, who had long woke up after the bitter 1: 4 defeat against Sweden. The team had already sat together in the morning to discuss the experienced and to get the heads free before the one and a half days of days that are now in front of it.
The team will only come together for training on Tuesday. Nüsken suspects that the analysis of the trainer team is waiting for you even then. There is a lot to discuss.
Wück: Everyone has to defend
First of all your own defense work. After it worked so well in the Nations League in spring with the defense, the topic in Switzerland now appears more pressing than ever. The left defense on which Rebecca Knaak (inside) and Sarai Linder (outside) should actually stop the opponents a good impression against Sweden. The speed deficits in particular came to light.
However, Nüsken did not want to go into this. She does not see a fundamental problem. After all, the team got it better. And national coach Christian Wück had already warned the evening before to put individual parts of the team in the lower. The defense, especially in the case of the counterattack of the opponent, is not just a matter for the chain of four.
Wamser closed after red card for a game
Nevertheless, Wück is faced with basic decisions before the quarter -finals: Does the chain of four stay? Or will he swes in view of the red card for Carlotta Wamser, which was blocked by UEFA for a game, as in the second half against Sweden to a triple chain? After the injured Giulia Gwinn, the second player intended as a right -back as a right -back.
There will definitely be changes.
The central defender Kathy Hendrich, as already substituted against Denmark, made her cause good after the substitution against Sweden and caused more stability. Franziska Kett could bring new pace in the position of the left -back. Sophia Kleinherne knows the tasks of a right -back exactly – however, this also applies to Linder’s right foot. So far, the kett and kleiners have been without an EM use, but they were not only in the starting eleven in the Nations League under Wück.
Kader offers other options in the central midfield
Much appears possible in the occupation of the defense. In the defensive midfield, on the other hand, it should be almost certain that the duo Nüsken/Elisa remains – even if the coordination between the two left a lot to be desired against Poland, as at the beginning of the game. Their substitute, the national coach explained their substitutions right after the game, but were mainly due to them in order to “Not to lose for the quarter -finals”.
However, Wück also said that in midfield “Bad decisions” had been hit – for example before 1: 1 of the Swedes. And with Sara Däbritz (better ball distributor) and Sydney Lohmann (more dynamics), the squad offers other options. Especially in interaction with Linda Dallmann, who could go back to ten again.
Nüsken wants to “focus on new energy”
“Change will definitely exist”Nüsken was convinced, which, however, finds it more important for the team to “focus on new energy”.
For this, however, the free Sunday afternoon and free Monday must serve. Such a real bathroom in the crowd, after the training, which was only a linder after the training, which was only in the open air for the players who had played for more than half an hour against Sweden. She sat down with her people in the stands.
The training itself had (as) far from the viewers on the other side of the square. And only afterwards autographs were written and selfies were made – but always with the gangs of the square in between.
