Coffee producer Nestlé invests 1.7 billion euros in research and development annually. Part of this goes into the research facility in the French Tours. In that center, researchers cross coffee plants so that they can do better against extreme weather and give more beans. According to Jeroen Dijkman, head of agricultural research at Nestlé, we therefore do not have to worry that the black gold will soon be finished. “This will also be enough coffee in 2050.”
