Host Spain has one less venue for organizing the World Cup in the summer of 2030.
The city of Malaga withdrew, as Mayor Francisco de la Torre announced after a meeting of the city with club representatives of FC Malaga.
“We don’t do this to save money, but because it is the best for the city, fans and the club,” said de la Torre. The Rosaleda Stadium, which was to be expanded to 45,000 places, was in the previous planning of one of eleven stadiums in Spain. Two arenas are provided in Barcelona and Madrid.
Spain, Portugal and Morocco are the main hosts of the tournament. 100 years after the first time in South America – the three nations Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina should play an opening game in their own country. According to FIFA, all six hosts are qualified for the tournament.
The World Cup takes place in the USA, Mexico and Canada in 2026. It will be the first edition with 48 qualified nations, over 100 games and a tournament duration of more than five weeks. For 2034, Saudi Arabia has been awarded the most important football tournament in the world for the first time.
