For the first time in her career Wimbledon, Iga Swiatek won her name. The 24-year-old Polish tennis star beat the American Amanda Anisimova in a one-sided final: 6-0 6-0. Never before in the professional era since 1968, a tennis star won the final without losing a game.
It is the sixth grand slam title for Swiateek. Four of the previous five titles won the Polish on Roland Garros. It is the first title in 2025 for Swiateek, which was the number 1 in the world for a long time, but dropped to fourth place. At Wimbledon, the Polish was placed eighth.
The final of Wimbledon was a scoop for both Swiatek and Anisimova. Swiatek got no further than the quarterfinals in previous years. Anisimova also reached the quarterfinals on London grass in 2022. The American did not participate in the two editions after that. In the semi -final last Thursday, the number 12 of the world ranking list number 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a long three -setter and thus reached the final of a grand slam tournament for the first time.
6-0 after 25 minutes
Anisimova could not bring the same in the final at the Center Court in London as in her match against Sabalenka. She soon supported two breaks. After 25 minutes, Swiatek had won the first set 6-0. Anisimova won only nine points in the entire first set.
In the second set, Swiatek was also inexorable at the breakpoints. In the first and third storage of the American, she immediately won the first breakpoint. In the second storage she did that at the third breakpoint. Anisimova tried, but often saw the ball just go out. After 58 minutes, the Polish served the game on her second match point. Tennis icon Billie Jean King, who was sitting in the stands next to Princess Catherine, won 6-0 6-1 in 1975 against the Australian Evonne Goolagong.
