The summer vacation has started and so many caravans are taken out of the parking again. In residential areas, the grind hut is often placed right in front of the door before departure. Handy for the final preparations, but not so nice for the neighbor who wants to get rid of his car. Is this actually allowed? And how long can a caravan stay in the street?

Parking a caravan in the street is allowed, but there is a term. The rules differ per municipality. A limit of up to three days applies in almost all Brabant municipalities. Then the caravan has to go back to the storage, a designated parking space, or your own driveway.

There are a few exceptions. In Son en Breugel, Nuenen and Uden you can leave your caravan for five days. In Helmond, the term has become stricter: this year it has been reduced from seven to three days. For more than five days, nowhere is nowhere allowed.

These rules also apply to a camper, folding trailer and trailers.

Parking space
Why so short? Caravans and campers take up a lot of space. As a result, there is less room for local residents who want to get rid of their car. And not everyone likes to look at such a ‘house on wheels’. Some think that campers and caravans disrupt the streets or views.

As a caravane owner you can choose to put your camper on the driveway. That is often allowed longer than on the street, but also rules apply per municipality.

Fine
Those who still dare to leave the vehicle in the street longer runs the risk of a fine. In most municipalities you first get a warning, but in Nuenen, for example, you immediately get a ticket. The fine is usually between 90 and 120 euros.

Figures from the CJIB show that the number of fines has increased considerably in the last ten years. In 2015 it was still about 218 fines, in 2024 there were 1,175. Eindhoven is one of the municipalities where the most often was fined. With 203 fines, the city is in two.

Moving your caravan always makes no sense: the rule remains the same and the days count.

Exemption
Do you want to leave your caravan up for longer? Then you can request an exemption from your municipality. It then determines whether you can stay longer than normal.
