Humberto Tan has said goodbye to his own talk show on RTL 4. Twelve years after the start of RTL Late Night it is over for the presenter. “This is the end of an era.”
It is 2013 when Humberto Tan starts with the daily RTL Late Night: it is a hit and the viewing figures are towering. But then something happens that nobody had seen coming: the presenter would have cheated on his wife with Dionne Stax. He lost the favor of the public, the viewing figures hit a free fall and he lost his show.
Stir up
Five years after the start, RTL Late Night came to the end of 2018, but in 2021 Humberto returned to the tube, this time with a talk show that bore his first name. In recent years he alternated with Beau van Erven Dorens, Eva Jinek and Renze Klamer. Eva has since left and now the helm is completely converted to the late evening of RTL 4.
Beau, Humberto and Renze lose their own talk shows and go up in RTL Tonight, in which a desk is used instead of a traditional table. The last late RTL talk show in the old form was on the tube last night. At the end of the broadcast, Humberto said goodbye to his team extensively.
Ware off
The Humberto audience was filled with his employees. “For now: thanks for looking. In addition to me, you will see a whole list of people who have worked with heart and soul on this program. From September we will return with RTL Tonight. For now: the people who are here in the studio, our colleagues, we will soon go up with that.”
And then? “Then we will celebrate. Thank you very much for watching Beau, Renze and this program, but also Jinek, also made by this team, so thank you for watching and we are going to a new season, from September 1, RTL Tonight, on this channel. Thank you.”
End of the era
Luuk Ikink, who used to be involved in RTL Late Night as a sidekick, thinks it is a moment. “Although the talk show continues, that is an end to an era,” he writes Instagram. “After 12 years, that talk show table will most likely make way for a desk shape.”
Humberto has really put something down, he thinks. “More than ten years after the departure of Barend and Van Dorp, another talk show came to RTL! And in the meantime I was busy practicing in the studio of RTL Boulevard (I could have ever suspected that …). I had no TV experience … so make flying hours!”
Top season
TV authority Tina Nijkamp states that Humberto has had a ‘top season’. Yesterday 633 thousand people looked at it, accounting for 22 percent market share in the commercial target group.
With that, Humberto won the Oranjezomer, which 616 thousand people watched.
