Davie Selke is no longer the most valuable German professional without a club. The second division goalkeeper king signed at the Basaksehir FK on Friday evening. A short time earlier, Hamburger SV had finally adopted the attacker. At the club from Istanbul, Selke signed a contract for two years with an option for another season.
Previously, Selke had contacted the HSV fans by video: “It was extremely important to me to thank me for the best year that I was able to experience as a footballer. It was an emotional roller coaster ride with incredible highlights. That will always remain in my heart,” says Selke. Sports board member Stefan Kuntz also said: “Davie identified himself with our goal and its task from the start. He went as a leader on and next to the square and really gave everything in the sign of the diamond. This is exactly this passion and we would like to thank him for it. With regard to his future, we had open and honest conversations that were shaped by transparency and mutual understanding. We wish Davie. Only the best for the future.
Basaksehir, the fifth in the table of the Süper Lig, has to collect the departure of ex-Hertha striker Krzysztof Piatek, which it moved to the Al-Duhail SC for 11 million euros. In addition to Eldor Shomurodov, loan from AS Rome, the choice fell on Selke. The 30-year-old had a significant impact on the Bundesliga return of the HSV with 22 goals in the league. He was also elected by the TM community as the best player in the 2024/25 second division season.
The attacker came to the Hanseatic City from 1. FC Köln last summer and is said to have been ready to continue with the red pants for three seasons with an annual salary of 1.8 million euros and to do without financial offers – 350,000 euros per year too much for the HSV, it was last said. Yussuf Poulsen from RB Leipzig is said to come as a Selke replacement.
Now Selke is taking the step abroad for the first time in his career. In Germany he had played for Werder Bremen, RB Leipzig, Hertha BSC, 1. FC Köln and the HSV 325 competitive games (88 goals/24 templates). There is also interest from the SK Rapid Vienna, Leipzig and Union Berlin. With Basaksehir, he is now fighting for participation in the Conference League.
