The fierce fire in a dry cleaner on Nieuwstraat in Son Thursday evening caused enormous damage. Not only the dry cleaner itself has been completely destroyed, the adjacent hairdresser, ice cream parlor and snack bar have also suffered considerable smoke and soot damage. The apartments above are uninhabitable for the time being.

The fire brigade immediately scaled up to ‘big fire’ on arrival of the first extinguishing car. The fire may have been created at the back of the dry cleaner in the meter cupboard. The gas had to be closed first, because it continuously ignited and therefore caused a fierce fire.

Demolished
To extinguish the fire, the fire brigade had to demolish the walls and ceiling of the dry cleaner. According to the Brabant-Zuidoost security region, the damage in the case where the fire started is enormous. “You have to fully consider the dry cleaner on the inside as lost,” says the spokesperson.

Photos show that there is also a good layer of water in the store, while there is still all clothing from the customers who wanted their things to have clean.

Everything under soot
According to the spokesperson for the Security Region, the fire has had an enormous impact and the adjacent things were heavily duped. For example, the adjacent barber shop has a lot of soot and smoke damage. “Everything is under,” says the spokesperson.

“That’s because there is only a wall between the two things, but it is in fact the same building,” explains the spokesperson. He expects that the barber shop cannot be opened for the time being.

Uninhabitable
There are apartments above both the dry cleaner and the barber shop. They had to be evacuated during the fire, but nobody was injured. Due to the smoke damage, the residents cannot sleep at home on Thursday night. There will first have to be ventilated and cleaned.

Throw away
The fire at the dry cleaner also caused a lot of damage two doors away. Because also at the ice cream parlor and cafeteria soot and smoke came in. “That also descended on the food. They must now be thrown away,” says the spokesperson for the Brabant-Zuidoost security region.

This way all the ice that lay behind the counter at the salon can go into the trash. “And also at the cafeteria next to it the black saw on the floor and a lot of cleaning has to be cleaned.”
